On 8th June, the National Cotton Market Monitoring System "2015 National Survey of Cotton Sowing Area" released, which introduced the area changes in the three largest cotton sowing area. Same as that in previously issued "2015 National Cotton Sowing Intentions Investigation Report (March)”, the cotton sowing area maintained a double-digit decline. It is understood that this year's cotton area fell showed the following three features compared to last year:
1. Cotton sowing area in mainland had a large decline. The cotton sowing area national wide in 2015 is 51.189 million Mous, decreased by 20.1% YOY. The cotton sowing area national wide in 2014 is 63.241 million Mous, decreased by 12.5% YOY.
2. Decline of cotton sowing area in the Yellow River Drainage Area is less than that in the Yangtze River Basin. "2015 National Survey of Cotton Sowing Area" displays that cotton sowing area in Yellow River Drainage Area is 11.067 million Mous, decreased by 30.8% YOY and cotton sowing area in Yangtze River Basin is 7.947 million Mous, decreased by 37.2% YOY. "2014 National Survey of Cotton Sowing Area" displayed that cotton sowing area in Yellow River Drainage Area is 15.998 million Mous, decreased by 24.4% YOY and cotton sowing area in Yangtze River Basin is 12.661 million Mous, decreased by 21.6% YOY.
3. Decline of cotton sowing area in Inland Northwest dropped significantly. According to "2015 National Survey of Cotton Sowing Area", cotton sowing area in northwest inland is 31.499 million Mous, fell 9.4% YOY, which fell 8.7% in Xinjiang. According to "2014 National Survey of Cotton Sowing Area", cotton sowing area in northwest inland is 33.906 million Mous, decreased by 1.0% YOY, which decreased by 7.6% in Xinjiang.
The main reason of area decline is different. According to "2015 National Survey of Cotton Sowing Area", the cotton sowing area decreased mainly due to a large area of farmland circulation, and tenant farmers give up the cotton sowing because of the high labor costs. "2014 National Survey of Cotton Sowing Area" showed the low profit and pessimitic expect of the cotton price are the main reasons which caused the decline of the cotton sowing area. |
